What is Land Rover Adaptive Cruise Control?

2022 Land Rover Defender driving on desert road

Most new Land Rover models come with the Land Rover safety suite, which includes a wide variety of driver-assist features like blind spot monitoring, anti-whiplash technology, and extensive anti-theft security. One of the highlights of the Land Rover safety suite is Adaptive Cruise Control, which takes the typical cruise control technology to the next level in order to keep you as safe and protected as possible on the Denver roads. The team at Land Rover Flatirons has more information on how Adaptive Cruise Control works, as well as what models have Adaptive Cruise Control, in the guide below – check it out!

How Does Adaptive Cruise Control Work?

  1. As long as the Adaptive Cruise Control system is engaged, your vehicle will automatically slow down if the vehicle in front of you reduces its speed or moves into your lane.
  2. Your Land Rover will automatically maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, using a wide variety of built-in sensors.
  3. As soon as the slower-moving vehicle in front of you is no longer present, Adaptive Cruise Control will raise your vehicle speed back up to how you originally set it.

Deactivating Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control can sometimes automatically deactivate under certain conditions. If it does, however, it will still retain the memory of its most recent settings. Here are some common causes for the system to deactivate while on the Boulder roads:

  • The CAN button on the steering wheel is pressed
  • The brake pedal is pressed.
  • All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) is selected.
  • Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Electronic Traction Control (ETC) activates.
  • The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is applied.
  • Hill Descent Control (HDC) is selected.
  • When the speed limiter is in operation (when the pre-set speed limit has been reached).

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go / Queue Assist

If your new Land Rover is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, you’ll also get a feature called either Stop & Go or Queue Assist, depending on where you live. Here’s what it does:

  1. This feature is used in slow-moving lines of heavy traffic.
  2. When the vehicle in front of you slows to a standstill, the system brings your vehicle to a standstill.
  3. When the vehicle in front of you moves forward again, tap the accelerator pedal and the system will continue to maintain a safe following distance.
  4. The following distance can be adjusted on your steering wheel-mounted controls.
